What is Kybella:

Kybella is a treatment for the 'double chin' that is administered via needle injection to the lower region of the chin (submental region). Kybella contains the active ingredient Deoxycholic Acid which is naturally occurring in the body. When administered, it targets fat cells and destroys them. When the fat cells are destroyed, they are no longer able to accumulate or store fat, which in turn gets rid of your double chin. This procedure for the submental area has been FDA approved, but is not yet approved for other areas on the body. In order to reach desired effects, multiple rounds of Kybella may need to be administered, based on your personal goals. Each round of Kybella can only be administered as soon as one month apart.

Who needs it?

Who Administers Kybella?

Because is an injection to your lower chin via needle, it is required to be done by a Registered Nurse or Doctor. Luckily, we have our very own Registered Nurse on staff, Mrs. Abby Coggins, who is experienced in administering Kybella and ready to help you with your double chin. The process is the same as seeing Abby for your regular Botox appointments.

What to expect?

After a consultation with our R.N., Abby, you will then be ready to receive you Kybella injections. Similar to receiving Botox, you may feel the needle injections. Topical anesthetic may be given to those who struggle with needle injections; however, many feel the injections under the chin are very similar to Botox, and extremely bearable.

After your appointment, you are likely to feel a bit of discomfort and swelling in the area. There is also potential for hematoma (bruising). The discomfort, swelling, and any bruising could last up to a couple of weeks; however, many do not feel the need to take off work, which makes this a GREAT alternative to having under-chin liposuction, in which case you would have significant down time.

Weighing the options. . .

Really, what you need to consider here, is the alternative. We are lucky that it only takes a simple injection (similar to Botox) to start us on our way to shrinking our double chin. Many people have turned to liposuction procedures to eliminate their double chin. These invasive procedures could potentially involve anesthesia, scarring from sutures, significant down-time after the surgery, medical bills, potential postsurgical swelling, and really any dangers that are associated with a surgical procedure. This process has been simplified by eliminating the surgical procedure entirely, and added a simple 20 minute visit with our Registered Nurse Abby. Then afterwards, you are back to your regular routine; it's that simple.
